Their thickness should be about the same as bicycle frame metal or a bit thicker. Pieces cut out of bed rails would work well. Sand or grind them totally clean of oxidation and paint. Pieces to be brazed must be very clean. Lay the bigger piece on a large, thick metal surface such as an anvil or the back of a vise.
